# How to test Variantify on a draft theme?

You can safely test Variantify on a **draft or test theme** before activating it on your live store.

### **How it works**

Variantify is enabled **per theme**, using Shopify’s *App embeds*.

If you activate Variantify only on a **draft theme**:

* You **will see a warning message** inside the app
* This is **expected behavior**
* The warning simply means Variantify is **not yet enabled on the live theme**

### **How to preview Variantify on a draft theme**

1. Go to **Online Store → Themes**
2. Click **Edit theme** for the **draft theme** you want to test
3. In the **Theme settings, **go to **App embeds**
4. Enable **Variantify**
5. Click **Save**
6. From the theme list, click **Preview** on the draft theme

You’ll be able to **preview how variants are displayed** on collection pages, exactly as they would appear once the theme is published.

### **Important note**

* The warning will **disappear automatically** once Variantify is enabled on the **live theme**
* You can freely test, preview, and adjust settings on a draft theme **without impacting your live store**
