Displaying specific variants (using SKU or barcode)

By default, Variantify displays all variants of a product when variant display is enabled.

In some cases, you may want to display only specific variants instead.

This article explains how to do that using SKUs or barcodes.

When should you use specific variants display?

Displaying specific variants is useful if you want to:

  • Show only selected colors or sizes
  • Build collections with precise variant control
  • Exclude variants without changing your Shopify products
  • Create curated or campaign-specific collections

This method gives you full control over which variants appear, without affecting your product catalog.

How specific variants display works

Instead of splitting all variants automatically, Variantify lets you:

  • Manually choose exact variants
  • Identify them by SKU or barcode
  • Display only those variants in a collection

Variants that are not selected will not appear.

Step 1 – Create a manual collection

Specific variants display works only with manual collections.

  1. Open Variantify
  2. Go to Collections and Click Create collection
  3. Choose Manual collection

This allows you to control exactly which variants are displayed.

Step 2 – Choose the variants

When adding products to the manual collection:

  1. Select Method 2 – Display specific variants
  2. Choose SKU or Barcode as the identifier
  3. Enter the values for the variants you want to display

(one per line)

Only the matching variants will be included.

Step 3 – Enable variant display

  1. Toggle Variant Display → ON for the collection
  2. Choose a variant title format
  3. Save your changes

Your collection will now display only the selected variants.

Important rules to know

  • Each SKU or barcode must be unique
  • Values must match exactly what is defined in Shopify
  • Variants without a SKU or barcode cannot be selected
  • This does not modify your Shopify products or inventory

How this differs from standard variant display

Standard variant display

Specific variants display

Splits all variants

Displays only selected variants

Works with smart collections

Requires manual collections

Option-based (Color, Size)

Identifier-based (SKU / Barcode)

Both methods can be used depending on your use case.

Common use cases

  • “Display only variants used in a campaign”
  • “Exclude specific materials or finishes”
